Customer Avatar
My ideal customer is modeled after the women I worked with last summer during my internship at a Michigan law firm. The explicit problem I witnessed from them, struggling with what to eat for lunch every single day, was the inspiration for my business model. This ideal customer is a suit-wearing, high heeled woman who checks her email on her iPhone while doing just about anything else. These young professionals wake up early every morning to fit in a workout, while scrolling through the New York Times on their iPads. They are often running in at the last minute, but never because they have forgotten, simply because they are trying to fit too many things into a day. They drive sleek sedans fast and use their car bluetooth to call friends on the commute so as not to waste a minute. Professional multi-taskers, these women notoriously are taking care of everyone else in life, but often put themselves last.
They often have to be reminded to leave the office at night and may even show up on the weekends in order to make up for anytime taken away from their work throughout the week. Although they intend to make their personal appointments, they somehow are always having to reschedule because something else came up. These women drink their coffee black and are often feeling 5 years older than they are, but without the raise that 5 years more of experience would bring. In the evenings, they meet up with a friend for dinner before heading home to fall asleep in front of a trash reality TV show, something they swore they would never do.
As a young, ambitious woman, I resonate with the work ethic of these women and I am inspired by their level of commitment. I recognize the demands of their work, although mine does not fully measure up, and I also am forever flustered as I have tried to add too much to a single day. I do not think this is a coincidence— I think these similarities are the sole reason that I recognize their balancing act: I have a similar problem myself.

This is so cool, Avery!! I find it really neat that you decided to model your avatar after someone you know. By modeling it after someone you personally know, it gives you a strong, solid foundation to build upon. It is interesting to see inside your mind and perspective about who you imagine your customers to be. The details you include are great. Good work!
ReplyDeleteI loved your description of your customer, it was like reading a book or watching a tv show. You showed the your ideal customer’s day to day. I loved how you trusted us enough with your personal similarity of your ideal customer. I liked how you went the extra mile and created a visual picture of your avatar for us.
ReplyDeleteHi Avery!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading about your personal avatar. Based on your description, I could vividly envision the type of individual you are referring to---someone who is young, ambitious, and always on the get-go. I think it was also super interesting that you recognized many similarities between your avatar and yourself. The ability to assess your own tendencies and reflect on them demonstrates self awareness and understanding of your character.
